KUMON ENGLISH

The Kumon English materials are structured to foster reading comprehension. The ability to read is reflected in the ability to read out loud. It is not overstatement to say that we can judge students’ reading comprehension from how well they read orally. By improving students oral reading ability, it can contribute to their reading comprehensions skills at the same time.
The purpose of oral reading is for students to develop their confidence and interest in learning. Students have a chance to show what they learned. It is an opportunity to praise them for they hard work. This boots their motivation.
In the centre, students reinforce what they study by reading out loud in front of the instructor and listening to the CDs. By hearing the materials twice – through their own voice and from the CDs – students will strengthen and enhance their mastery of the material.
If a student has really mastered the material, he or she should be able to smoothly read the material out loud. Students who understand the material and are comfortable with it should be able to read fluently and with good expression. This is especially true in higher level; students studying the right level will read smoothly, expressively and will know such things as which places of text to emphasize and where to pause.
